Ah, Bristol. The creative hub for the likes of Banksy and many other artistic geniuses. From rummaging the racks of vintage clothing to singing your heart out with your favourite artist, it is true what they say – you will never run out of things to do in Bristol and you will never be bored.
So, here is my compiled list of my top 10 things to do in Bristol this coming March, April and May, so stay tuned and keep an eye out for these great events!
- PreLoved Vintage Kilo, Bristol
Date: Sunday 18th March 2018
Where: Motion, Bristol.
Time: 11am- 4pm
Price: £1.50 for entry ticket
Bristol’s very popular Preloved Vintage Kilo Sale is returning once again. If you’re not familiar with what the KIlo Sale is, it’s basically lots of old retro/vintage clothing sold at a cheap price. For £15, you can grab yourself a kilo. I mean, what’s better than shuffling through tonnes of branded wavey garms and upgrading your student wardrobe?
- Tom Walker Concert
Date: Thursday 22nd March 2018
Where: Thekla, Bristol
Maybe you’re a student at UWE and you love indie music, but you’re struggling to find a decent venue and affordable tickets. Look no further – this event is just for you! Gather your closest friends and enjoy some of the best indie artists in Thekla – a fun, intimate venue.
- A StreetCar Named Desire
Date: Tuesday 17th April – Saturday 21st April
Where: Bristol Old Vic, Theatre
Time: 2:30pm or 7:30pm
Price: Varies between times/dates £10-£13.50
Maybe you have an eye for the classical arts and enjoy attending theatre shows, but you can’t seem to find anywhere cheaper than Bristol Hippodrome. The Bristol Old Vic is popular among many students who are looking for somewhere affordable yet upbeat to go. The Old Vic is perfect if you have friends or family visiting for the weekend. Why not treat them and take them to the theatre for a fun-filled evening of inspiring acting and lots of laughs?
- Vance Joy Concert
Date: Saturday 24th March 2018
Where: 02 Academy, Bristol
Time: 7pm – 11pm
If you’re stressing out about what event to go to on a Saturday night, then this should definitely be at the top of your list. With affordable ticket prices and the promise to see Vance Joy up close and personal, you wouldn’t want to miss this!
- Bristol Jazz & Blues Festival
Date: 15th-18th March 2018
Where: Colston Hall/The Folk House/The 02 Academy
Time: 7pm-11pm (depending on who you go to see)
Price: Varies between acts – around £20-£30
Channel your inner Bristolian and knock back a few ciders at the Bristol Jazz & Blues Festival. It never fails to disappoint! Bring your partner, friends and family and come and revel in delightful funk, soul and rock’n roll.
- Plan B Concert
Date: Wednesday 2nd May 2018
Where: Colston Hall
Price: £32.25 incl. booking fee
One event that should definitely be in your calendar is Plan B’s concert. With this being his first tour since 2013 after returning to the music scene only last year, you’ll want to grab a ticket as soon as possible before they sell out. This one’s bound to be a showstopper.
- The Carnival of Light Bristol
Date: Saturday 12th May 2018
Where: 02 Academy Bristol
An extraordinary club night like no other, I give you The Carnival of Light. Expect astounding lights, lasers, and amazing live performances! This event boasts music genres from house and techno to garage and bass. If you have some extra spare cash in your pocket after your next student loan drops in, then you should definitely consider purchasing a ticket to this event.
- Love Saves the Day
Date: 26th May- 27th May 2018
Where: Easteville Park, Bristol
Time: 11am – 11pm (each day)
Price: Saturday ticket- £43.45, Sunday ticket –£43.45,
Weekend ticket – £82.50
Arguably one of the biggest calendar events in Bristol all year long is “Love Saves the Day” festival, which has hosted many famous artists, including Bicep and Stefflon Don. This event is at the top of every UWE student’s bucket list, with a whooping 4,800 attendees already confirmed on the LSTD Facebook page.
- Bad & Boujee – Hip Hop/ Trap Party
Date: 12th April 2018
Where: The Lanes, Bristol
Time: 10pm – 3am
Here’s an event that even your moaning housemate, who claims they “never have any money” could afford. After 2 sold out events, London’s biggest trap night is coming back to Bristol. One of the best things about this event is that if your birthday is in March then you get free entry! What could be a better way to spend your birthday then groovin’ to all of your favourite hip-hop tunes with your closest friends?
- Bristol Colour Run
Date: Tuesday 22nd May 2018
Where: Clifton Down, Bristol
Alas, finally a free event that anyone can attend. Last but certainly not least, is Bristol’s famous Colour Run. This event is in aid of raising money for the Israeli-Palestinian charity “Children of Peace”. So, if you’re an early riser and you like doing your bit to help the wider community, then you might want to consider signing up.
