Music

This week’s upcoming gigs (2/12)

All the unmissable gigs in and around Bristol for the week beginning December 2 2019.

Klaus Johann Grobe

Rough Trade – 2/12

A fun and tight dance band that fans of LCD Soundsystem will enjoy. For all the fireworks that are going off for all the new aggressive music that is happening around at this time, you have to have some fun at some point. This is a great band to remind yourself of this.

Jonny Bruce Quartet

Jazz Future Inn – 5/12

Look at me writing about contemporary jazz, my parents would be proud. A local staple of the Bristol jazz scene Johnny Bruce and his band will give you a night of excitement and beautiful colours. For all the stigma around jazz and how band it can be (honestly 90% of it is terrible) this is a hill that I will die on, seeing live good jazz is an experience that can not be compared with any other live music experience.

Tickets: Skiddle

The Bug Club

Crofters Rights – 3/12

A smaller band that is making fantastic music is coming to Bristol, really that is one of the best things about Bristol. This blues and psychedelic outfit from Wales will hit you with beautiful folk style moments then gut punch you with a swell of loud guitars.

Tickets: Headfirst Bristol

Aitch

O2 Academy – 5/12

A big name in the UK grime/trap scene is playing at the O2, it will be a big heavy night if you enjoy this kind of stuff you owe yourself to go and see this. If you were like me and at school watching people doing a rap battle behind the bike sheds at school, this will remind you of that excitement of days gone.

Pavlove

The Old England – 3/12

A great power pop act will be playing at The Old England, only £4 on the door and you will hear music that will make you mad from the fact that they are not getting more attention. Fans of Coutrney Barnett will love this. Also, The Old England is the best venue in Bristol – it really is. You can go down any night and you are going to hear something you have never heard before.

Tickets: Headfirst Bristol

Speaking In Tongues (Talking Heads tribute)

The Thunderbolt – 7/12

A brilliant cover band will be at the Thunderbolt, if you are a Talking Heads fan you have to go and see the music live. They will be playing from Talking Heads’ first album and Remain In Light so it is going to be nothing but the hits and dancing all night.

Tickets: Ents24

Wax Music Sixth Birthday

Rough Trade – 7/12

Rough Trade will be having a showcase of some of the best of the stranger bands that are around the Bristol area. If you enjoy your music slightly strange and haven’t found anything new, this will be a great tasting session, you will walk away with a few bands that you will love.
