You won’t believe what you can now recycle in Bristol!

From crisp packets to coffee cups, recycling in Bristol and on campus has never been easier!

UWE is taking part in The Crisp Packet Recycling Scheme across Frenchay, Glenside and Bower Ashton campuses as part of working towards its sustainability targets in 2020.

Additionally, TerraCycle, a recycling company, has a drop off location in Cathedral Primary School near Millenium Square, where you can recycle items like toothbrushes, beauty products, Pringles cans, bread bags, dishwashing and cleaning packaging.

Furthermore, Bristol Waste have also recently launched a new campaign ‘For Cups Sake’, with awarded funding from environmental charity Hubbub.

On Wednesday 29th January, one-hundred paper cup recycling bins were rolled out across key commuter routes throughout the city centre and will also be appearing soon in shopping areas like Cabot Circus, The Galleries and Cribbs Causeway.

The bins have been introduced with the aim of recycling up to four million paper cups in their first year. Bristol Waste has also teamed up with One Tree Per Child, and pledged to plant a tree for every 10,000 cups recycled using the bins.

To mark the launch of the initiative, City Hall was lit up with a projection with details of the campaign.

It’s not just coffee-lovers who are in on the fun – crisp-lovers can now recycle empty crisp packets on UWE campuses!

Crisp company Walkers have partnered with TerraCycle to create a free recycling scheme to cut down on plastic waste in the UK. UWE is one of 3,920 participating locations.

After seperating the packets by plastic type and cleaning them, TerraCycle makes them into plastic pellets which are then used to create new products. TerraCycle recycles millions of pounds worth of material weekly, diverting it from going to landfill or incineration.

All brands are accepted, but the crisp packets should be empty and not folded into triangles.
