UWE Bristol is set to have it’s Fresher’s Fair on October 9th 2020.
The announcement was made on August 17th through the Student Union’s Media Challenges. Many students, including incoming and current, were anxious to find out what the plan was with the biggest event of the year.
The Fresher’s Fair, unlike previous years, will be virtual in order to follow government guidelines and keep people safe during the COVID-19 Pandemic. It will take place online on October 9th 2020 from 12-5pm.
Societies will be holding exhibitions online through a website called Whova. Students will be able to bounce from stall to stall to look at each society in turn. Societies will be able to upload pre-recorded content, host live Q+As and workshops/sessions for prospective members. They will also be able to answer any questions student have.
The decision to host it online follows suite with many other UK universities having already announced theirs would be virtual. It comes as reassurance to incoming students after the fiasco of A-Level results day the previous week.
Normally, the Fresher’s Fair would be held towards the middle of September. This year it has been pushed back to accommodate the newly added Block Zero, which runs from September 21st to October 16th. It will be held a week before the new term, Teaching Block One, commences on October 19th.
